MOUNTAIN BIKING IN THATON
4 days/3 nights

This guided tour will bring you to northern most part of Thailand. You will cycling manly along rural back roads and in the Mae Kok valley. Request and Booking Form

Day 1
Chiang Mai - Thaton

Depart Chiang Mai and head north to the Fang valley and the forest temple of Wat Tum Tubtao. Cycle through rolling agricultural landscapes to a rare Palong hilltribe village. From here, re-board the vehicle and head off towards Ban Thaton.
For those who wish to cycle further, a second 20 km cycling stage is available along rural back roads between Fang and Mae Ai. Overnight at the lodge, right on the bank of the Mae Kok river.

Day 2
Thaton

After breakfast board a long tailed boat in Ban Thaton and travel 1,5 hours, 30 km down river to a Lahu village called Ban Ton Pung (Bee tree village). Cycle back to Ban Thaton through Lahu, Yao, Karen, Lisu, Akha, Shan and rural Thai villages.
There is a possibility to visit a Paduang "long necked Karen" village (optional).
Overnight again at the lodge in Ban Thaton.

Day 3
Thaton - Kok Noi (river camp)

Depart Ban Thaton by mountain bike heading east through paddy fields and rural Thai villages before following the river down stream to the Lahu village of Jakhua.
Here you are met by a river barge with picnic lunch and transferred 10 km down river to the path leading up to yhe Lahu settlement of Kok Noi. Cycle a loop through the hills on forestry roads and arriving back at the river directly opposite the river camp. Hot showers, BBQ dinner, drinks around the campfire, and overnight accomodation in delightful bamboo bungalows.

Day 4
Kok Noi (river camp) - Chiang Rai

After breakfast board the river barge to travel 3 km back upriver to the forestry station at Ban Pha Kwang where you disembark and cycle inland to another Lahu village. Return along the north bank of the river passing the river camp and meeting up with the river barge at picnic spot on the bank. After lunch continue cycling down the dirt roads on the north bank, through the village of Ban Ruam Mit and on to a meeting point at the river boat landing stage in Chiang Rai. Here, collect your baggage and transfer back to Ban Thaton or to your chosen hotel in Chiang Rai. End of the tour.
